WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE APPLYING.

Rental Assistance vs. Emergency Rental Assistance

Rental assistance is designed to help cover regular rent payments — usually for people who are behind on rent, facing a financial hardship, or trying to maintain stable housing. It often includes back rent or upcoming rent and is part of a longer-term stability plan.

Emergency rental assistance, on the other hand, is urgent, immediate help for people facing eviction, homelessness, or sudden crisis. It typically moves faster, but is limited in scope and timeline.

At this stage, CDHG is a rental assistance program, not emergency assistance. That means we focus on helping stabilize housing situations, but we are not currently able to respond to same-day or crisis-level needs. As the program grows, we hope to add emergency support options in the future.Once the application window closes on August 29, our team will begin processing submissions. This takes approximately 3–4 business days. Approved applications will receive a disbursement, while denied applications will receive an email notification with an explanation. The next round of applications will open the following month, and applicants are welcome to reapply if they were not selected.
